I guess many NDTV regular would have got to watch this bit of news. The number of cases may be high and alarming. People blame the bus drivers, the roads, the traffic and all that they can lay their hands on. But does even one person bother as to how (s)he is walking, standing, crossing the road?? I don’t see anyone thinking on these lines. IMO the bus drivers, especially, are doing an excellent job. Hats off to them. I agree exceptions are always there. But it sure must be getting on every driver’s nerve, not just the bus but all others, when people try crossing the roads by signaling a stop with their hands, by trying to take up as much space on the roads as they can, land encroachment inclusive. I’ve seen my bus move past crowd, standing to cross the road, with less than 2 inches gap. And the sort of person that I am, I find it amazing that neither the crowd is ready to budge, nor can the bus driver coz he has people and vehicles on the other side as well that need to be taken care of. And the two wheelers and auto-rickshaws, the way they try to creep through the smallest places that can hold them. Any driver could go berserk at the attitude people hold here. And if ever to one’s bad luck the brakes fail who is to be blamed?? The bus driver coz he did not give you enough place to stand on the road??
This post is not as such to praise the bus drivers. But it sure is for the pedestrians, please do not have so much faith on others' driving skills. They could be on the road for the first time. Be more of a human, coz you are born as one, rather than behaving like the animals on road, that give way only if the vehicle is passing by real close or if honked at constantly.
