Skip a Beat

My heart skipped a beat. Not coz it came as a surprise to me. I knew I shall be faced with this. And I was always prepared, or I thought so. I had pictured this often. I knew how I was supposed to react. I knew what questions would be asked. I had rehearsed the answers well. I had rehearsed the expressions and the voice modulations also. I had made it sound as believable as it should be. There was no hint of preparedness. And yet, when I was confronted with the questions I went numb, my hands chill, eyes bleary. Brain refused to function. All that occurred to me was, “Why did you have to ask this??” The rehearsals did pay off. I was incisive.
