I was new in the Company, new to the work place, the work culture and the people. Everything was new to me. I needed help with almost everything I did. One of those days I got an issue to be fixed. I was also told that someone else, in the older version, was fixing it. So I was asked to consult him before I fixed it in the current version. And I did so. He wasn't much help though, said he'd consult his boss and let me know how to proceed. Just after two hours of this he asked me for a coffee. Surprised, I was, initially said a No. But when asked persistently I agreed, I don't take coffee though, thinking may be this is how people work here, informally, talk work over coffee breaks etc. But the coffee break was nothing but sheer waste of my time. We talked of everything but work. That was when I said to myself, "Dare u go for a coffee again (Grrr…:@)." After that, if I'm ever asked for a coffee, Tea or whatever... I only say "NO, Thanks :)".
I have lately turned down a couple of coffees and movies, subtly. But this person doesn’t seem to take hints at all. And the worse part being, his affected mannerisms. Always trying to show off he's smart. And in the attempt ends up being a dumb-head, time and again.
I learnt one good thing of this experience, "Be Myself" always. Probably I'd be liked better being me than failing to be someone else.
