Freedom under Vigilance

One of the front page headlines in The Hindu today is Tight Security ahead of R-Day. This reminded me that for a while now, every Independence day and Republic day our National capital is under threat of attack. What an irony... we need strict vigilance to celebrate our freedom. The first citizen of our nation needs to be guarded with the highest security available coz (s)he might lose his/her life celebrating his/her freedom. People can no longer enjoy the celebrations. They have a fear that needs to be tended to. Is this freedom at all?? I thought why do we need a celebration without the festivity. Why do we hold the parade risking so many lives?
May be if we do not take this risk, if we do not celebrate our freedom, if we do not confront, then may be we'd soon find ourselves confined to our houses in a quest to keep ourselves alive. We might lose the reason for our celebration.

Wishing you a safe and happy Republic Day!!

Looking at it from a slightly different perspective, its always like that re.

True freedom always needs protection. Be it a country or a person or a perception.

Else why is it that marriage or commitment is such a scary thing. Why is a free statement by say a Khusboo or Taslima attacked so vehemently. In the end, how free is the free individual/thought/country?
