I had never thought staying alone was going to be this difficult. Saturday night after (a seemingly never ending) wait for the dabba wala (the caterer who gets dinner for me every night coz I haven't yet bought a stove) to get my dinner, the dinner finally arrived at 8:15pm. I finished having my dinner by 9pm and went to bed right away. If only I wasn't on a fast even the next day I'd have slept by 8 or even 7. Anyways, I'd planned to meet my old school friends the next day, it being a Sunday all of us could make time. We hadn't been able meet for the past 1 year. We were to meet by 10:30 so I'd have to wake up at least by 9. So 9-9, should be good enough sleep for this weekend. The next week isn't hectic coz I'm leaving for home on Tuesday night.
But as the saying goes 'Man proposes, God disposes", I could not have a sound sleep (I usually have dreamless sleep) coz I was a li'l concerned if the rain water would seep in. It was raining cats and dogs since evening. But I could never make myself stick a foot down and check if the room was flooded :P. And all of a sudden (again this night) I felt something on my feet. I (again) thought of brushing the thought of lizards away coz I hadn't found any so far. Cockroach!! "Nah!! Wake up and see wat the it is". So I forced myself off the bed and switched the lights on. This time I wasn't disappointed, neither was I relieved coz this time I saw a huge (huge coz I'm alone in the room and I don't like rats either) rat. (Do not read I was scared coz I ain't scared of anything. Just that I don't like them) Yeah! There was this huge black rat hopping around and the room (that was looking big enough to accommodate two people) all of a sudden seemed too small to accommodate me with a rat.
(S)he ( I wouldn’t know if it were a he/she) jumped onto the carton containing my cooking utensils. I was terrified, "How am I gonna cook in those dirty things? Firstly how will I get them out with that thing inside the carton?"
I saw a Maggie packet lying beside the carton and him sitting on the carton (wonder why he couldn’t enter it.)
"Oh no!! I wouldn't let you nibble my Maggie". I went to pick it up when this thing came hopping towards me. I was petrified (but din' wanna scream and wake neighbors up.) Not coz he was charging towards me but coz I had already imagined him hopping all over me before he was actually closer. Yuck!! I've got great imagination, which at such times works to my disadvantage.
Thankfully he took a detour towards the other corner of the room and hid himself behind the wardrobe. I checked the time, it was 2:51am.
"Oh God!! I won’t be able to sleep as long as this thing is in the room. He can afford to go out and find another place to stay, not me."
"God!! Why did I have decide to stay alone??"
To keep myself up and keep a watch on the nasty thing I decided to pen down this incident. While doing so I heard dogs bark outside. A moment later when I thought of peeping out to find out what’s bothering them I was cautioned by Mr(s). Rat that (s)he’s still in. I saw him streak past, warning me not to move.
This is pathetic, he sure knows how to keep me at bay but I don’t. L.
Thankfully he left (through the same way he came in, the ventilator) by 4:30am. I was up till he went away. Even after he left I couldn’t sleep well.
I’ve asked the house owner to fix the ventilator up.
